The first new range of products from Dick Smith Foods in 2005 is a range of ready to serve soups made with Australian native herbs and spices.
“The soup category in Australia has been dominated by the two US companies, Heinz and Campbell’s for many years. We’re fighting back with a range of uniquely Australian recipes,” said Dick Smith Foods’ CEO, Ross Mudford.
Following on from the success of Dick Smith’s Bush Foods Breakfast Cereal, a new range of popular soup flavours, Tomato, Cream of Green Pea, Minestrone and Butternut Pumpkin containing Australian native herbs and spices such as Australian Native Mint, Alpine Pepper and a Wildfire Spice mix (consisting of lemon myrtle, mountain pepper, forest anise and lemon aspen) is being launched. Not only do consumers get to enjoy the quality of wholesome Australian grown vegetables, but the addition of the Australian native herbs and spices adds a unique twist to the flavour of everyday favourites.
“The combination of quality Australian grown produce combined with native herbs and spices sits well with the adventurous spirit of Dick Smith himself,” said Mr Mudford.
The products are being made by Windsor Farm Foods Pty Ltd at Cowra, NSW. Windsor Farm Foods also produces Dick Smith’s asparagus products and is the only processor of Australian grown asparagus available in supermarkets.
The new soup range has been accepted by Woolworths and Coles with other accounts expected to follow.
