Kraft Factory Closure - Dick Smith Fights Back

Following on from the decision this week by Kraft to close a factory in Victoria resulting in 151 job losses, Dick Smith has re-launched his ‘fight back’ campaign on behalf of all Australians.

Dick Smith Foods is running a press campaign alerting Australians to the choice they have in trying food from an Australian owned and run company that supports Australian farmers.

“The Kraft situation is all part of globalisation and the mad rush to get everything at the lowest possible price,” said Smith. “It is a catastrophe for Australia, which has been told about the upside, which is lower prices; but nothing about the downside, such as local farmers going broke.”

The range of Dick Smith Foods includes biscuits, peanut butter, cheese spread, breakfast cereal, oil, soup, chocolate sauce and drink mix as well as the only Australian canned asparagus spears and cuts.

“Most Aussies want to buy food that is not only grown here by Australian farmers but is sold by an Australian owned business so that the profits stay here creating wealth for our children’s future,” states Smith. “With so much of the labelling misleading there is one way you can guarantee Australian made and owned – that is with Dick Smith Foods.

“There is a big education job to be done to make people aware of how many brands are at risk of being moved overseas,” he said. “The Age’s online poll on this subject today shows that over 65% of people said they would boycott companies if they moved their manufacturing overseas. That’s pretty overwhelming.”
